Do you mighty ones truly speak what is just? Do you judge people with fairness?

No — in your hearts you plot injustice. Your hands weigh out violence across the land.

The corrupt go wrong from the moment they are born; they wander off-course from the womb, speaking lies.

Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like a deaf cobra that shuts its ears tight,

that will not respond to the voice of charmers, no matter how skilled the enchanter.

God, shatter the teeth in their mouths! Yahweh, tear out the fangs of these lions!

Let them vanish like water that drains away. When they draw their bows, let their arrows fall limp.

Let them be like a slug that dissolves as it moves, like a stillborn child that never sees the sun.

Before your pots can feel the heat of thorns — whether green or blazing — he will sweep them away.

The one who lives right will be glad when he sees justice done; he will wash his feet in the blood of the corrupt.

And people will say, "Yes — there really is a reward for those who live right. Yes — there really is a God who brings justice to the earth."
