Rescue me from my enemies, my God. Set me high above those who rise against me.

Rescue me from those who practice evil, and save me from people who thirst for blood.

Look — they are setting an ambush for my life. Fierce men conspire against me, and it's not because I've rebelled or failed, Yahweh.

I've done nothing wrong, yet they sprint into position against me. Wake up! Come to my side and see this for yourself!

You — Yahweh, God of angel armies, God of Israel — rise up and deal with every one of these nations. Show no mercy to any treacherous schemer.

They come back every evening, snarling like stray dogs, prowling the streets of the city.

Look at what pours from their mouths — their words cut like swords. They think, "Who's even listening?"

But you, Yahweh — you laugh at them. You look at all these nations and scoff.

O my Strength, I watch for you, because God is my fortress, my safe high ground.

My God in his faithful love will come to meet me. God will let me look down on those who stalk me.

Don't kill them outright, or my people will forget. Scatter them with your power instead, and bring them low, Yahweh, our shield.

Every word from their mouths is a failure of the lips. Let them be trapped by their own arrogance — by the curses and lies they keep repeating.

Consume them in your fury. Consume them until they are gone. Then the whole earth will know that God rules over Jacob's descendants — all the way to the ends of the earth.

Let them come back every evening, snarling like stray dogs, prowling the streets of the city.

Let them wander around scrounging for food, howling through the night if they go unsatisfied.

But I will sing of your strength. Every morning I will shout about your faithful love, because you have been my fortress, my refuge when trouble closed in.

O my Strength, I will make music to you, because God is my fortress, my God of faithful love.
