A song of David. Yahweh, I am calling out to you — come quickly. Listen to my voice when I cry to you.

Let my prayer rise like incense before you, my lifted hands like the evening offering.

Yahweh, post a guard at my mouth, keep watch over the door of my lips.

Don't let my heart be drawn toward anything destructive, or get caught up in corrupt practices with people who do harm — don't let me feast on their luxuries.

Let someone who is just strike me — that is an act of faithful love. Let them correct me — it is oil for my head; my head will never refuse it. But my prayer is still set against the deeds of the corrupt.

When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, they will hear that my words were good.

Like someone plowing and breaking up the earth, our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave.

But my eyes are fixed on you, Yahweh, my master. In you I have taken shelter — don't pour out my life.

Keep me from the jaws of the trap they have set for me, from the snares of those who do harm.

Let the corrupt fall into their own nets, while I pass safely through.
