But you — teach what lines up with healthy teaching.

Older men should be clear-headed, worthy of respect, and self-controlled — grounded in trust, in love, and in endurance.

In the same way, older women should carry themselves with reverence — not tearing others down with their words, not controlled by too much wine. Instead, they should teach what is good,

so that they can train the younger women to love their husbands and love their children,

to be self-controlled, to live with integrity, to manage their homes well, to be kind, and to respect their own husbands — so that no one has reason to trash-talk God's message.

In the same way, push the younger men to be self-controlled.

In everything, be a living example of what's good. When you teach, do it with integrity and with weight behind your words,

with speech that can't be torn apart — so that anyone opposing you will be embarrassed because they've got nothing bad to say about us.

Tell those who are enslaved to submit to the people who own them in everything — to try to please them, not to argue back,

not to steal from them, but to show complete and genuine trustworthiness — so that in every way, they make the teaching about God our Rescuer attractive.

Because here's what happened: God's undeserved kindness has shown up — and it offers rescue to every person.

It trains us to say no to living without God and to worldly cravings, and instead to live with self-control, integrity, and an awareness of God in this present age —

while we wait for the incredible hope we're looking forward to: the appearing of the greatness of our great God and Rescuer, Jesus The One.

He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of rebellion and to make us his own people — people who are eager to do what's good.

Teach these things. Encourage and correct with full authority. Don't let anyone dismiss you.
