Yahweh spoke to Moses:

"Tell the Israelites: When a woman conceives and gives birth to a boy, she will be in a state of separation for seven days — the same kind of separation as during her monthly period.

On the eighth day, the boy's foreskin must be circumcised.

Then she must wait thirty-three more days for her blood to finish its cycle of restoration. She must not touch anything that belongs to God or enter the place kept for God until the days of her restoration are complete.

But if she gives birth to a girl, she will be in separation for two weeks — the same as during her monthly period. Then she must wait sixty-six days for her blood to finish its cycle of restoration.

"When her days of restoration are complete — whether for a son or a daughter — she must bring a one-year-old lamb as an entirely-burned offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove as a failure offering to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

The priest will present it before Yahweh and perform the ritual that makes things right for her, and she will be restored from the flow of her blood. This is the instruction for a woman who gives birth, whether to a boy or a girl.

"If she can't afford a lamb, she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons — one as an entirely-burned offering and the other as a failure offering. The priest will perform the ritual that makes things right for her, and she will be restored."
