Who has believed what we've been told? And to whom has the arm of Yahweh been revealed?

He grew up before him like a tender shoot, like a root out of dry ground. He had no form or majesty that we would look at him, nothing in his appearance that we would be drawn to him.

He was despised and abandoned by people, a man of suffering, familiar with grief. Like someone people turn their faces from — despised, and we considered him nothing.

But it was our grief he carried, our suffering he bore. And we — we assumed he was being punished, struck down by God and humiliated.

But he was pierced because of our failures, crushed because of our wrongs. The punishment that brought us peace fell on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

All of us, like sheep, had wandered off. Each of us had turned to our own way. And Yahweh laid on him the failures of us all.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he didn't open his mouth. Like a lamb led to slaughter, like a sheep silent before its shearers, he didn't open his mouth.

By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And his generation — who among them considered that he was cut off from the land of the living, struck because of the failures of my people?

They assigned him a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death — though he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.

But Yahweh was pleased to crush him, to cause him to suffer. When his life is made an offering for guilt, he will see his offspring, he will prolong his days, and what pleases Yahweh will succeed through him.

After the anguish of his soul, he will see light and be satisfied. By his knowledge, my just servant will make many right with God, and he will carry their wrongs.

So I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the mighty — because he poured out his life to the point of death, and was counted among the rebels, yet he carried the failures of many and stepped in for the rebels.
