The wilderness and the dry land will be thrilled — the desert will celebrate and burst into bloom like a crocus.

It will bloom wildly, overflowing with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They will see the splendor of Yahweh, the magnificence of our God.

Strengthen the hands that hang limp. Steady the knees that buckle.

Say to those whose hearts are racing with fear: "Be strong. Don't be afraid. Look — your God is coming! Vengeance is coming, God's payback. He himself is coming to rescue you."

Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped.

Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will shout for joy. Because waters will burst out in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.

The scorched ground will become a pool, the parched land will become springs of water. Where jackals once crouched and rested, grass and reeds and papyrus will grow.

And a highway will be there, a road. It will be called the Road That Belongs to God. No one unclean will travel it. It will be for the one walking that road. Even fools will not lose their way.

No lion will be there, no ferocious beast will walk on it — none will be found there. Only the rescued will walk that road.

The ransomed of Yahweh will return. They will come to Zion with singing, with unending joy crowning their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will disappear.
