An oracle against Moab: In a single night, Ar of Moab is devastated — silenced. In a single night, Kir of Moab is devastated — silenced.

They go up to the temple, to Dibon, up to the high places to weep. Over Nebo and over Medeba, Moab wails. Every head is shaved bare, every beard cut off.

In their streets they wear rough cloth. On their rooftops and in their public squares, everyone is wailing, collapsing in tears.

Heshbon and Elealeh cry out — their voices carry as far as Jahaz. Even Moab's soldiers tremble; their courage drains away.

My heart cries out for Moab. Her refugees flee to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. They climb the road to Luhith, weeping as they go. On the road to Horonaim, they raise a shattering cry of ruin.

The waters of Nimrim are dried up — the grass is withered, the green plants are gone, nothing living remains.

So they carry what they have saved, whatever they managed to store up, across the Wadi of the Willows.

The outcry echoes across the borders of Moab. Their wailing reaches Eglaim. Their wailing reaches Beer-elim.

The waters of Dimon run red with blood, but I will bring still more upon Dimon — a lion for those who escape from Moab, for the survivors left in the land.
